What is Dog Grooming?

Oftentimes I get the questions what breed Tia and Duke are and if they need grooming. The answer to these questions are, a Siberian Husky and Great Pyrenees and YES of course they need grooming!

Grooming a dog does not just mean getting a haircut or shave and trimming fur.

Dog grooming is the hygienic care and cleaning of a dog to increase its physical appearance. Very much the same as us humans brushing our hair and having a shower!

Dog grooming varies from breed to breed. A dog like Duke needs more attention than Tia the husky. They both require a bath every 6-8 weeks (sometimes sooner if they are muddy), brushing, nail trimming and minimal fur trimming. Duke needs more attention to trimming on his paws since the fur grows on the top and between his toes. He also has a very fluffy tail and thick furnishings, so they need trimming as well. Tia just needs some trimming on her pads and she is good to go.

So when the question is asked if they need grooming, they most certainly do. A full grooming for these two is a bath, brushing, nail trim, and a paw/furnishing trim. Many people question why they do not get shaved. They are double coated dogs and this would destroy their beautiful fur. For a more in depth explanation, read our previous blog post on why not to shave a natural coated dog.
