What To Be Aware Of During The Summer For Your Pet's

Overheating

Make sure your pet’s have access to FRESH water at all times. Look out for signs that they are hot or dehydrated such as panting, sweating (through the pads on their feet), gum discolouration, vomiting/diarrhea.

Exercise

Try to walk, run or bike early in the morning or later when it is cooler out. If you do go mid-day, keep your exercise shorter, bring water, try to stay in shade or take many breaks. If you walk on concrete on pavement be aware that if it is too hot for you to touch with your hand, then it is too hot to walk your pet as it will hurt their pads and can cause injury.

Keep Paws/Feet Cool

This is where your pet’s sweat, through their paw pads. Make sure to keep them cooled off in a kiddy pool or by simply hosing them off. Trust me, they will thank you!

Do NOT Leave Your Pet In The Car

Many dogs enjoy car rides, but not if they are going to be left in the vehicle. There are no excuses even if it is for “only one minute.” Your vehicle can heat up much quicker than you think and the end result will not be good for you or your pet.

Do Not Shave Your Pet

I cannot stress this enough. If your dog is double coated and does not need a full hair cut and just some trimming, I do not recommend it. This will only make the situation worse. Again you can check out our earlier blog post on never shaving a natural coat.
